Sun and moon luminaire

The concept behind this luminar is rooted in the idea of exploring light as a dynamic and living entity. I dedicated time to investigating various materials that possess the ability to reflect and transform light in interesting and unique ways. With a desire to showcase the natural movement of light over the course of a day, I set out to create a luminescent object that would be in constant flux, shifting and transforming as the sunlight changes. By channeling the organic nature of light, this piece offers a mesmerizing and ever-changing visual experience that captivates and enchants all who behold it.

As with any creative endeavor, the realization of an idea often requires a fair amount of problem-solving and adaptation. In the case of this particular project, the mechanisms designed to allow for complete rotation of the layers did not function as planned. While the original intention was for each layer to be able to rotate fully on top of one another, certain adjustments needed to be made in order to bring the piece to fruition. The shape of the fabric circle was initially intended to be a more organic shape, but due to weight constraints, it was necessary to alter the design to ensure it would not sag under its own weight. Additionally, the axle was positioned on the side of the brass instead of in the center to enable full rotation off the light. These were just a few of the challenges I encountered during the creation process, but by employing creative problem-solving and finding ways to work around these obstacles, I was able to bring my vision to life.
