We selected Hermès speakers for our Studio 5 Sound Off project due to our admiration for the brand’s timeless aesthetic and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship. This seven-week project involved in-depth brand research, sketching and modeling iterations, designing technical components to ensure optimal sound quality, and creating a finalized prototype.
We began by diving into Hermès’ legacy, exploring their product range, analyzing their annual reports on craftsmanship, sustainability, and philosophy, and delving into the rich history of the generational artisan families behind the brand. Hermès’ inspiration from its saddlery roots resonated deeply with us. To gain a contemporary perspective, we also visited a Hermès store to observe how the brand connects with people today.
Our design phase started with the concept of portability. Drawing inspiration from Hermès’ home goods and accessories, we were particularly intrigued by their bag charms and the iconic Birkin bag. These elements sparked initial sketches that emphasized refined details and exceptional craftsmanship. As our exploration evolved, we solidified our vision: a speaker that encapsulates Hermès' meticulous attention to detail and timeless quality.
The result is the Jument speaker—a seamless blend of the brand's DNA. We drew from Hermès' exquisite leatherwork, elegant silver jewelry, and sophisticated home goods, uniting these elements into a cohesive and thoughtfully designed product.
Overall, the Jument speaker was an enjoyable project that allowed us to focus on craftsmanship and design, delivering a final product that authentically reflects Hermès’ identity.
